Enrolment Zone

 

From March 1 2022 Ōpoho School has in place an active Enrolment Zone. The official description of this zone is featured below. Ōpoho School (3790) 

Enrolment Scheme Effective from 1 March 2022

The guidelines for development and operation of enrolment schemes are issued under Schedule 20, Clause 3 (3) of the Education and Training Act 2020 for the purpose of describing the basis on which the Secretary’s powers in relation to enrolment schemes will be exercised.

Home Zone

All students who live within the home zone described below shall be eligible to enrol at the school.

The Home Zone takes addresses on both sides of the boundary roads mentioned in the description unless otherwise stated.

Starting from the intersection of Great King Street North, Ōpoho Road, and North Road, the home zone follows:

  • South-east along the southern side of Ōpoho Road until Knox Street
  • South-east along Ōpoho Road until Arden Street o Including Knox Street
  • North-east along Arden Street until Chambers Street o Including Glendining Avenue down to number 43 on the east side and 38 on the west side
  • North-west along Chambers Street until Taine Street o Including Chambers Street down to number 35 Chambers Street
  • North-east along Taine Street until Craigleith Street
  • North-west along Craigleith Street until Dee Street o Including 34 and 35 Craigleith Street
  • North-east along Dee Street until Frame Street
  • South-east along Frame Street until Maybank Street o Including 28 and 29 Frame Street
  • North-east along Maybank Street until Blacks Road o Including Islington Street down to number 28 Islington Street, o And including Mechanic Street down to number 24 on the west and 27 on the east side of Mechanic Street
  • North-west along Blacks Road until Marquis Street o Including 33 and 34 Blacks Road
  • North-east along Marquis Street until James Street
  • South-east along James Street until Grey Street
  • South-west along Grey Street until Blacks Road o Including Grey Street to the east of James Street
  • South-east along Blacks Road until Evans Street
  • North-east along Evans Street
  • North-east along Evans Street until the end of Evans Street o including Dalmeny Street
  • From the end of Evans Street jumps south-east to number 215 Signal Hill Road
  • South-west along Signal Hill Road until Blacks Road o Including all of Signal Hill Road to the east of number 215,  o Including Northfield Avenue, o And including Grandview Crescent
  • South-east along Blacks Road until Warden Street o Including Blacks Road addresses to the east of Warden Street
  • South-west along Warden Street until Ōpoho Road  o including Mowat Street, o and including Torridon Street
  • North-west along Ōpoho Road until its intersection with Great King Street and North Road o Including Ōpoho Road to the east of Warden Street, o And including Lovelock Avenue.

Special Programmes

This priority category is not applicable at this school because the school does not run a Special programme approved by the Secretary.

Out of Zone Enrolments

Each year the Board of Trustees will determine the number of places which are likely to be available in the following year for the enrolment of students who live outside the home zone. The Board will publish this information by public notice in a medium appropriate to the area served by the school. The notice will indicate how applications are to be made and will specify a date by which all applications must be received.

Applications for enrolments will be processed in the following order of priority:

First Priority:

This priority is not applicable at this school because the school does not run a special programme approved by the Secretary for Education.

Second Priority: 

will be given to applicants who are siblings of current students. 

Third Priority:

will be given to applicants who are siblings of former students.

Fourth Priority: 

will be given to any applicant who is a child of a former student of the school.

Fifth Priority:

will be given to any applicant who is either a child of an employee of the board of the school or a child of a member of the board of the school.

Sixth Priority:

will be given to all other applicants.

If there are more applicants in the second, third, fourth, fifth or sixth priority groups than there are places available, selection within the priority group will be by ballot conducted in accordance with instructions by the Secretary, under Schedule 20, Clause 3 (1) of the Education and Training Act 2020. Parents will be informed of the date of any ballot by public notice in a medium appropriate to the area served by the school.

Applicants seeking second or third priority status may be required to give proof of a sibling relationship.
